Ready-made scenarios can be assigned as they are or customized by faculty.

Patient encounters

Simulated Office Visits or EMR Messages.

Office Visits: Students interview the patient, examine with a reason for each maneuver, order and interpret tests, and write a SOAP note.
- New-patient and established-patient visits.
EMR Messages: A patient writes through the portal. Students review the chart, reply, and order labs or a referral when needed.

Medication Refills

A patient requests a prescription renewal through the portal.

Students review the request and the patient’s record, then explain the medication’s rationale, monitoring, side effects, and alternatives.
They decide whether to refill, justify the decision, and write a note to the patient.

Results Review

A returned lab or diagnostic result arrives in the in-basket.

Students interpret the result in the context of the patient’s chart and decide whether it is expected, abnormal, or urgent.
They explain the result in plain language and choose the next step, such as repeat testing, treatment, referral, or timely follow-up.

Staff Messages

A nurse, pharmacist, or colleague sends a clinical question or handoff.

Students review the relevant chart, orders, and results, then answer the question or clarify the plan.
They close the loop with a concise, professional reply that says who does what next.
